Photo of the artist by Gina Rae Horvath

This art and clothing is held in my imagination, it sits in my lap, it rests overnight, and is manifested through these hands which hold a life--a story.  So much of the clothing in the world up until very recently was made for a particular man, woman or child, very often as an act of love, regard and care--that is what lives in it.  My work is not simply of the "now”—it is of the earth—of this island’s discarded textile history and it is of the hands of textile makers who have come before.  I explore the thread of textile and natural history, and the breath of its life.  I use repurposed natural fibre textiles, antique embroideries and lace--made by unknown hands over untold hours--to create sculpture, fibre jewellery, accessories, and women’s clothing.
